About the School

Iceland's only public university focused on business, law, and social sciences, originally founded as the College of Cooperatives in 1918. In 2024, it became tuition-free, charging only an annual registration fee. In autumn 2026, enrollment reached 1,896 students, marking the second consecutive year of record-breaking growth. The university hosts a Jean Monnet Chair in European Studies, participates in the EU Erasmus+ program and the PRME Principles for Responsible Management Education, and has been a key member of OpenEU, a pan-European online university network, since 9 2026.

Language requirements

Icelandic B2.2 (Business/Social Sciences, Bachelor's) / C1.2 (Law) / TOEFL iBT 94 with each section ≥20 (English track); English track requires only Icelandic A1.2.

Tuition Reference

Tuition / Registration fees: 100,000 ISK/year; Spring admission only: 75,000 ISK; Non-EEA processing fee: 135 EUR

Application deadline

Undergraduate/Master's Fall: 6/5; English University Pathway: 6/23; Payment confirmation deadline: 7/4, with a late fee of 15% if submitted by 8/5.

Scholarship

No international student scholarships available; Icelandic residents may apply for student loans; working students can receive partial tuition reimbursement through the unions' starfsmenntasjóðir.

Accommodation Details

The Hvanneyri campus of the online university is no longer used as student housing. For in-person intensive courses, students must arrange their own accommodation; the university can assist with booking partner hotels.
